Discover Fuvahmulah, Beyond Diving

Fuvahmulah is a traditional local island in the Maldives. It has no bikini beach and the sale of alcohol is prohibited. This authentic identity is reflected in its nature, culture, and gastronomy.

Tip: Dress modestly in public areas (T-shirt and shorts out of the water). Respect local customs and the natural environment.

What to See in Fuvahmulah

Beaches and Coastline

  • Thoondu Beach: Shoreline of white pebbles, very photogenic. At certain times, the Bissaaveli phenomenon appears, creating a small natural lagoon. Caution with currents!
  • Kulheyfe Fanno (Pebble Beach): Pebble coastline with strong waves and open views of the Indian Ocean.
  • Kalho Akirigando (Black Stones): Contrast of dark boulders against the turquoise sea; ideal for photography.
  • Feendhi Fanno: Coastal stretch linked to mangroves; a good spot for birdwatching.

Freshwater Lakes, Mangroves and Wetlands

Fuvahmulah is home to two freshwater lakes surrounded by mangroves and wetlands:

  • Bandaara Kilhi: Green environment with walkways and mud bath areas, a fun and different experience.
  • Dhadimagi Kilhi: Home of the Fuvahmulah Nature Park, with walking paths, viewpoints and relaxing activities such as kayaking or pedal boating.

Heritage and Local Life

  • Havitta: Archaeological mound of an ancient stupa, testimony to the island's historical past.
  • Fish Market: Heart of daily life, perfect for watching morning landings and auctions.
  • Mangrove Park: Accessible wetland where you can appreciate coastal biodiversity.

Where to Eat

Between dives, near the port you will find cafés and stalls for snacks and refreshments. Also, take note of these stops:

Café Eden (our favorite in the Maldives): Not located at the port, but worth the detour for its variety and quality: good coffee, natural juices, bowls, sandwiches and homemade pastries.

Restaurant by the Lagoon:
In the Dhadimagi Kilhi (Nature Park) area you will find a restaurant/café serving local food: curries, catch of the day, coconut rice and hedhikaa (Maldivian short eats).

Other Useful Addresses

  • Real Breeze Restaurant: Local cuisine and seafood.
  • Drippers: Coffee, smoothies and snacks.
  • Layers by Panino: Bakery–pastry shop for breakfasts and sweets.
  • Kanbili Espresso: Espresso and light options.

Shops We Loved

Adore Boutique:
Local crafts with handmade and hand-painted pieces: figurines, illustrations, T-shirts and perfect gifts for divers.

Siuu Arts: Workshop–store that customizes diving equipment and hand-paints T-shirts and garments. We recommend visiting them upon arrival, as orders can take several days.

Diving Community

At the end of the week, stop by the dive center that accompanies us during the stay to meet the team and sign the logbooks. Joyce will welcome you with open arms.
