Giant Hammerhead Experience Expedition

Bimini, in the Bahamas, is one of the world's most spectacular destinations for diving with great hammerhead sharks. This small island, located on the western edge of the Bahamas just off the coast of Florida, has become an international hotspot for shark lovers, underwater photographers and divers looking for truly unique expeditions.

During the winter months, great hammerhead sharks gather in the shallow waters surrounding Bimini, offering a unique opportunity to encounter one of the ocean's most iconic shark species up close. Their unmistakable silhouette, graceful movements and impressive size make every dive an unforgettable experience.

This expedition is designed for divers looking for more than a conventional dive trip: an adventure focused on large pelagic species, crystal-clear waters, sharks and the authentic spirit of the Bahamas.

The Giant Hammerhead Experience

The highlight of the expedition is, of course, the great hammerhead shark. During the trip we will enjoy two dedicated Giant Hammerhead Experience days, with dives specifically focused on encounters with these magnificent animals.

All dives are conducted following the protocols established by the local dive centre and under the supervision of experienced professional guides. Our goal is to provide a safe, controlled and respectful experience, always remembering that we are diving in a natural environment where wildlife encounters depend on animal behaviour and sea conditions.

Bimini offers the perfect setting for these dives, with white sandy bottoms, exceptional visibility and shallow depths, creating ideal conditions for underwater photography and videography.

Beyond the Hammerheads

Although the great hammerhead shark is the main attraction of this expedition, Bimini has much more to offer. Throughout the recreational diving days we will explore local reefs, shark dive sites, vibrant tropical marine life and possible encounters with other pelagic species, always depending on sea conditions and the local dive centre's planning.

The programme includes five full days of diving, combining recreational dives with the special Giant Hammerhead Experience days. In addition, a boat snorkelling excursion is planned, subject to the weekly schedule and local conditions.

Depending on how the trip develops, there may also be the opportunity to enjoy snorkelling with wild dolphins or at other interesting sites, always subject to availability, weather conditions and the local operator's decision.

A Unique Arrival: Private Seaplane to Bimini

One of the most exclusive highlights of this expedition is the transfer between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini, which will be made by private seaplane. After arriving in Miami and spending the first night at an airport hotel, the group will travel by road to Fort Lauderdale to board the flight to Bimini. Arriving by seaplane is an unforgettable experience in itself, offering breathtaking aerial views of the turquoise waters, sandbanks and Caribbean scenery that make Bimini so special.

The return journey from Bimini to Fort Lauderdale will also be by private seaplane, followed by the transfer to Miami International Airport for the flight home.

Detailed Itinerary:

05 February 2027 | Flight from Barcelona to Miami

The Bimini Expedition 2027: Giant Hammerhead Experience begins. The group will depart from Barcelona on an international flight to Miami, marking the start of a unique adventure in the Bahamas focused on diving with great hammerhead sharks.

The scheduled flight will be operated by American Airlines, departing Barcelona at 11:00 AM and arriving in Miami at 3:20 PM, according to the current flight schedule.

Upon arrival in Miami, the group will complete the standard U.S. immigration and customs procedures, including baggage collection and passport control. Each traveller must obtain a valid ESTA authorization before departure, as this is not included in the expedition and must be arranged individually.

Once all arrival formalities have been completed, the group will be transferred to the scheduled hotel near Miami International Airport. This first night is designed to rest after the international flight and ensure a smooth connection to Bimini the following day.

Accommodation is planned at the Sonesta Miami Airport or a similar hotel, in a shared twin room, on a bed and breakfast basis. The included breakfast applies only to this overnight stay in Miami.

During the afternoon and evening, guests will have time to relax, organise their diving equipment and prepare the necessary documentation for the following day's transfer to the Bahamas.

06 February 2027 | Transfer to Bimini

After breakfast at the hotel in Miami and check-out, the group will travel by road to Fort Lauderdale, where we will begin the transfer to Bimini. This journey will be made as a group transfer, according to the expedition schedule.

From Fort Lauderdale, we will board a private seaplane to Bimini, one of the most memorable moments of the expedition. This scenic flight offers a spectacular introduction to the Bahamas, with breathtaking views of the Caribbean, turquoise waters and the famous sandbanks that make Bimini such a unique destination.

Arriving by seaplane is part of the experience itself. Located on the western edge of the Bahamas, just off the coast of Florida, Bimini is a small island whose exclusive access by seaplane adds an extra sense of adventure to the journey.

Upon arrival in Bimini, the group will transfer to the Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina, where we will check in for the next 7 nights. This charming marina-style resort provides the perfect setting for a diving expedition.

During the afternoon, we will assemble and check our diving equipment, followed by the expedition welcome briefing. During this session, we will explain the dive schedule, daily logistics, safety procedures and all the specific information required for diving in Bimini.

The remainder of the afternoon will be free to relax, explore the surroundings of the resort and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of the island before the diving activities begin.

Important: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

07 February 2027 | First Diving Day

Today marks the first full day of diving in Bimini. Following the general briefing held the previous day, the group will begin exploring the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas, renowned for their outstanding visibility, white sandy bottoms, shallow reefs and frequent encounters with sharks and tropical marine life.

The programme for today includes 2 recreational dives, providing the perfect introduction to the local diving conditions. These dives may take place on coral reefs, local dive sites or dedicated shark dive locations, depending on weather conditions, sea state, visibility and the dive centre's daily schedule.

This first diving day is particularly important, allowing the group to adapt to the pace of the expedition, check their equipment in the water and become familiar with local diving procedures. It also gives the guides the opportunity to assess the group's comfort and experience before the dedicated Giant Hammerhead Experience days.

During the recreational dives, divers may encounter colourful coral formations, sandy seabeds, schools of tropical fish, stingrays, sea turtles, reef sharks and many other marine species typical of the area. As always in a natural environment, wildlife sightings depend on sea conditions and animal behaviour.

After the dives, the group will return to the resort to rinse and store their equipment, review photos and videos from the day, and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure in Bimini.

Important: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

08 February 2027 | Second Diving Day

Today is the second full day of diving in Bimini. After the initial orientation dives, the group will continue exploring the waters of the Bahamas with a programme of 2 recreational dives, always subject to sea conditions, weather, visibility and the daily planning of the local dive centre.

This day offers another opportunity to discover the incredible underwater world of Bimini, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, white sandy bottoms, tropical reefs and frequent shark encounters. Depending on the conditions, the dives may take place on local reefs, vibrant marine habitats or sites where encounters with pelagic species are possible.

Throughout the day, divers may encounter a wide variety of Caribbean marine life, including schools of tropical fish, stingrays, sea turtles, reef sharks and many other species commonly found in the area. Bimini is a dynamic diving destination, meaning every dive offers something different. In addition to enjoying the recreational dives, this second day will allow the group to become fully familiar with the daily routine, including equipment preparation, boat procedures, navigation to the dive sites, safety protocols and coordination with the local dive guides.

This preparation is particularly valuable before the main Giant Hammerhead Experience days, where calm behaviour underwater, close attention to the guides and strict adherence to safety procedures are essential to ensure a safe, respectful and unforgettable encounter with these remarkable sharks.

After the dives, the group will return to the resort to rinse and store their equipment, review photos and videos from the day, and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure on the island.

Important: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

09 February 2027 | Giant Hammerhead Experience

The programme includes 2 dedicated Giant Hammerhead dives, specifically designed to maximize the opportunity of encountering these magnificent sharks. All dives are conducted in accordance with the local dive centre's safety protocols and under the supervision of experienced professional guides.

Bimini is one of the world's premier destinations for great hammerhead encounters during the winter season. Its white sandy seabed, crystal-clear waters and shallow dive sites create the perfect setting to witness the unmistakable silhouette of a giant hammerhead emerging from the blue.

Before entering the water, a detailed briefing will be held to explain the activity, including underwater behaviour, group positioning, safety procedures, permitted interaction and the correct conduct during shark encounters. The objective is to enjoy a safe, controlled and respectful experience with these extraordinary animals. Remaining calm, maintaining the position assigned by the guides, avoiding sudden movements and carefully following all instructions are essential throughout the dive.

For underwater photographers and videographers, this will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated days of the expedition. The combination of exceptional visibility, bright sandy bottoms and close encounters with large sharks makes Bimini one of the finest locations in the world for capturing unforgettable underwater images.

After the dives, the group will return to the resort to rinse and store their equipment, review photos and videos, and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure while relaxing on the island before the next stage of the expedition.

Important: Encounters with great hammerhead sharks always depend on the animals' natural behaviour, weather conditions, sea state and underwater visibility. Although Bimini is one of the world's best destinations for this experience, sightings can never be guaranteed.

Important: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

10 February 2027 | Fourth Diving Day

Today is the fourth day of water activities in Bimini. Following the first dedicated Giant Hammerhead Experience, today's programme is planned as a day of recreational diving and exploration of other highlights around the island.

The day's schedule will be adapted according to local conditions and the dive centre's planning. Depending on the weather, sea state, visibility and the progress of the expedition, the group may enjoy recreational dives on coral reefs, tropical marine habitats, white sandy bottoms or dedicated shark dive sites. Bimini offers a diverse underwater environment, with crystal-clear waters, bright sandy seabeds and the rich marine life of the Caribbean. Throughout the day, divers may encounter reef sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, schools of tropical fish and many other species typical of the region.

This day may also be used for the boat snorkelling excursion included in the programme, provided that conditions are suitable and it fits within the local schedule. Depending on how the week develops, there may also be the opportunity to enjoy snorkelling with wild dolphins or at another point of interest, always subject to availability, weather conditions and the local operator's decision.

The aim of today is to enjoy a more flexible programme, combining recreational diving with other marine activities while remaining adaptable to the actual conditions at the destination.

After the day's activities, the group will return to the resort to rinse and store their equipment, review photos and videos, and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure in Bimini.

Important: The order of the dives, the snorkelling excursion and any additional activities may be modified depending on weather conditions, sea state, local availability and the decision of the dive operator.

Reminder: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

11 February 2027 | Giant Hammerhead Experience

Today marks the final diving day of the expedition and the second dedicated Giant Hammerhead Experience. Once again, the focus of the day will be on encounters with the great hammerhead shark, one of the most anticipated highlights of the entire journey.

The programme includes 2 dedicated Giant Hammerhead dives, specifically planned to maximise the opportunity of observing these magnificent animals. As on the first hammerhead day, all dives will be conducted under the supervision of the local dive centre, following strict safety procedures and behavioural protocols designed for this unique experience.

This second Giant Hammerhead Experience provides another opportunity to encounter these extraordinary sharks while enjoying the exceptional underwater scenery that makes Bimini so famous: crystal-clear waters, white sandy seabeds and shallow dive sites, creating ideal conditions for unforgettable encounters as well as outstanding underwater photography and videography. Before entering the water, the local team will review the key safety guidelines, including maintaining the assigned position, avoiding sudden movements, following the guides' instructions at all times and respecting the animals' natural space. The priority is to ensure a safe, well-organised and respectful wildlife experience.

This will be the final diving day of the expedition. No further dives will take place after today in order to respect the recommended minimum surface interval before the international flights home. After the dives, the group will return to the resort to rinse and pack their diving equipment, review photographs and videos, and begin preparing their luggage for the journey home.

Important: Although Bimini is one of the world's leading destinations for encounters with great hammerhead sharks, sightings always depend on the animals' natural behaviour, weather conditions, sea state and underwater visibility. Therefore, encounters cannot be guaranteed.

Reminder: Meals, breakfast, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.

12 February 2027 | Free Day in Bimini

Today is a free day in Bimini with no diving activities scheduled. After several days of diving, including recreational dives and the dedicated Giant Hammerhead Experience, this day is reserved for relaxation and to ensure the recommended no-fly interval before travelling.

No dives will take place today. The primary purpose of this day is to provide the group with sufficient surface time before tomorrow's flight, following several consecutive days of diving.

Guests are free to enjoy the island at their own pace: relax at the resort, explore Bimini, spend time on the beach, organise luggage, review photos and videos, or simply unwind after an unforgettable week of diving.

Depending on how the week's programme has been organised, the included boat snorkelling excursion or another light marine activity may also take place today, provided that conditions are suitable, it is considered safe, and it is approved by the local operator. Any activity will remain subject to weather conditions, sea state, local availability and the final operational schedule.

This is also the perfect opportunity to rinse, dry and carefully pack your diving equipment, as well as prepare your luggage for the early transfer to Fort Lauderdale the following day.

Important: No diving is scheduled today in order to comply with the recommended minimum no-fly interval after multiple dives. The safety and well-being of the group will always be our highest priority.

Reminder: Meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks in Bimini are not included in the programme. Each traveller will be responsible for arranging their own meals throughout their stay on the island.
