The BDE Route, also known as the Golden Triangle of the Red Sea, is a diving trip that covers three of the most emblematic and spectacular areas of this marine region: the Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef and Elphinstone Reef. This itinerary has earned its name thanks to the triangular geographical shape that these points form. This trip is suitable for more experienced divers, and its appeal lies in the incredible diversity of marine life it offers.
The Brothers Islands, a pair of rocky peaks rising majestically from the depths of the ocean. These islands, being isolated from the coast, are home to abundant reef life that attracts numerous pelagic species. Grey reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks are common sightings. Additionally, it is possible to see large tuna patrolling the walls, along with schools of barracuda, snapper and horse mackerel. But what makes these islands truly special is the chance to spot hammerhead sharks, silky sharks, thresher sharks and manta rays in the nearby waters. However, the undisputed star of this place is the oceanic whitetip shark, also known as Longimanus, which often accompanies divers during safety stops beneath the boats.
Daedalus Reef is another highlight of this route. It is an oval reef that lies further offshore than any other reef in the Egyptian Red Sea. Its deep walls and slopes are home to some of the spectacular coral formations that exist. This is where divers have a high chance of spotting schools of hammerhead sharks, as well as grey reef sharks, silky sharks and, of course, oceanic whitetip sharks.
Elphinstone Reef, just 11 kilometers from the coast, is the closest reef of the three, but it is no less spectacular. Its walls are covered with soft corals of multiple colors, black corals and spectacular gorgonians. This reef is known for likely encounters with grey reef sharks, which often patrol the upper plateau. Additionally, oceanic whitetip sharks can be spotted throughout most of the year.
This unique experience not only allows divers to witness the beauty and diversity of marine life in the Red Sea, but also gives them the opportunity to contribute to the protection and conservation of these incredible marine creatures through our Sea Talks.
